MN, Jesus told His Apostles there were many things He did not tell them because they were not ready. He told them, though:

"Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. " ~ John 16:13

There's been many things God has shown His Church throughout Christianity through dreams and visions. I.E., according to the story in Acts 10, Saint Peter had a vision of a sheet full of animals being lowered from heaven. A voice from heaven told Peter to kill and eat, but since the sheet contained unclean animals, Peter declined. The command was repeated two more times, along with the voice saying, "What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common" (verse 15) and then the sheet was taken back to heaven (Acts 10:16). Next thing ya know, messengers sent from Cornelius the Centurion arrive and urge Peter to go with them. He does so, and mentions the vision as he speaks to Cornelius, saying "God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean" (Acts 10:28). Peter related the vision again in Acts 11:4-9. Up to that time, Jews were forbidden to have anything to do with Gentiles because they were considered unclean.

If you really wanted to know the answer to this and researched it, MN, I'm sure it's spelled out clearly in the Church's Teachings somewhere how the Church drew their conclusions. Not something I've felt the need to research for myself because I've learned to trust the Church when they speak on issues above my pay grade.

God bless you
