An adequate Christian discernment of New Age thought and practice cannot fail to recognize that, like second and third century gnosticism, it represents something of a compendium of positions that the Church has identified as heterodox. John Paul II warns with regard to the "return of ancient gnostic ideas under the guise of the so-called New Age: We cannot delude ourselves that this will lead toward a renewal of religion. It is only a new way of practising gnosticism - that attitude of the spirit that, in the name of a profound knowledge of God, results in distorting His Word and replacing it with purely human words. Gnosticism never completely abandoned the realm of Christianity. Instead, it has always existed side by side with Christianity, sometimes taking the shape of a philosophical movement, but more often assuming the characteristics of a religion or a para-religion in distinct, if not declared, conflict with all that is essentially Christian".(6) An example of this can be seen in the enneagram, the nine-type tool for character analysis, which when used as a means of spiritual growth introduces an ambiguity in the doctrine and the life of the Christian faith.

There would be - * No Wars, no killings, no murders, no harm done to people. * No abuse and slaughter of animals. * No destruction of the natural enviroment and eco-systems. * No selling and exploitation of the earth's natural resources. i.e. Selling a natural resource such as "water" is obscenely immoral. * No rich, no poor, no Master, no Slave - all resources would be shared equally amongst all. * No "private property" as everything would be held in common for everyone to share. In summary, there would be Universal Peace and Harmony amongst all men and all living creatures. Everyone would be in-tune with their Creator GOD and know His will. Angels would walk amongst us, and we could talk to them, and they would show us the mysteries of Creation. Sounds great, huh? So why does everyone fear the New Age?

Are you from the Catholic Answers forum?
Some of us have been defending our faith for so long against those who come here to disparage it that it's easy to get impatient

You're confusing "New Age" with "Occultism." Occultism seeks Power. New Age seeks Harmony with the Universe. New Age doesn't make us "GOD" but a part of GOD - all of Creation is a part of GOD's essence - and that's why we should respect it. Satanism teaches that we are "gods", not New Age, not even Wicca. I quote: "The New Age is a free-flowing Spiritual movement; a network of believers and practitioners who share somewhat similar beliefs and practices, which they add on to whichever formal Religion that they follow." New Age stresses unity with the Divine Source. If everyone was perfectly in-tune with "GOD", "one" with GOD, as New Age propagates, I guess the Church would be "OUT OF BUSINESS."

Stay away from the near occasion to sin

Becuse the New Age is scriptural, and few there be that believe. Come, let us go up the mountain of the God of Jacob, and learn of all His ways `Paul
Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Daniel 9:24 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 2 Peter 3:9-14 And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. Revelation 21:5 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 And He shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. Micah 4:3

The only exception would be the slaughter of animals, but we'd only kill to eat, and we'd do it humanely.
So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. Genesis 1:27-30 Thou shalt not kill. Exodus 20:13

From the word in the beginning, it was not so.
And the commandment not to kill doesn't make any exceptions.

According to Genesis, in the very beginning every creature was vegetarian. I think it was to Noah that God gave permission to kill animals for food.
Can't we even swat mosquitoes?
Are lions going to hell because they break the commandment not to kill?
When man lays down his rebelleous spirit, the lion shall lay down with the lamb That's figurative language to prophesy that enemies will learn to trust each other and eventually to love each other and stop being enemies.
Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against Me. The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel doth not know, My people doth not consider. Isaiah 1:2-3

New Age.. it's too goofy.
Been there, done that & ain't going back. Don't believe 'power' from pyramids (even brass ones or whatever metal hanging from the ceiling... don't laugh... a friend of mine has one... and no we don't hang out much anymore), don't believe in crystals, chakaras & all that other stuff. And yeah, bought an opal back in my NAM days...actually had an opal ring cuz I liked the colors (cheapy) and a rough opal but don't believe they did anything for my eyes. I think that was the stone for my eyes... I tossed a ton of NAM junk so don't even know if I have any of that anymore.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Actually, almost all of those would be true if everyone lived according to Christian principles.
